- STEM Academy sport programs will begin after school on Monday, September 15th.
- This fall, we intend to offer interscholastic programs in Coed Cross Country (7th & 8th Graders), Field Hockey (7th & 8th Graders), and Boys & Girls Soccer (8th Graders Only). In terms of STEM Academy students participating in a high school sport, 8th Graders will have the opportunity tryout for Boys Golf this fall.
- Coed Cross Country will practice at Sandwich High School. Field Hockey and Soccer will practice at the Henry T. Wing School (33 Water Street). Transportation to each practice will be provided by bus. Parents/guardians will be required to pick-up students, on time, following practices.
- Bus transportation will be provided to and from any away contest. STEM Academy student-athletes are required to take the bus to and from any contest. Pick-up and drop-up will take place at Sandwich HS. Parents/guardians are expected to pick-up students at Sandwich HS, on-time, following any contest.
- An unlimited participation policy will be used whenever possible. There are, however, factors which necessitate the size of the squad to be limited in order to maintain a high level of safety, coaching, playing time, and practice time. The following will be considered reasons to limit the size of the squad:
1. Nature of the sport
2. Access to facility space and time
3. An exceptionally large number of students trying out for a particular sport
4. Safety factors
- Whenever possible, cuts will not be made until after three tryout sessions. The approximate size of the squad will be announced at the first tryout.
- Instructional STEM Academy programs will be offered in Strength & Conditioning and Coed Volleyball. Instructional Strength & Conditioning is being designed to accommodate any youngster interested in learning more about fitness and nutrition.
- Before any student can tryout or participate in a fall sport at STEM Academy, the following requirements must be met:
2. A participation fee of $100 for interscholastic offerings and $50 for instructional offerings, made payable to “Sandwich HS Athletic Revolving Account”, must be delivered to the Dept. of Athletics at Sandwich HS. A student that qualifies for free or reduced lunch can request a fee waiver. Fee waivers must be applied for in writing and directed to the Administrator for Athletics at nmurphy@sandwich.k12.ma.us.
The STEM Academy annual family cap is $400. The family cap applies to STEM Academy sport programs only is not associated with elementary school or high school sport team or club activity fees.
